Subscriptions & streaming charges

Subscription and streaming charges usually appear when a free trial ends, a monthly or annual plan renews, or a service bills through a shortened company name. The statement wording may name the platform, its parent company, or a billing partner rather than the product you remember signing up for. Annual renewals are especially easy to miss because they may appear only once a year and can be larger than the familiar monthly price.

Start by matching the amount and date against email receipts, app-store purchase history, and the subscriptions page in the service itself. Check family accounts too: another household member may have started a trial or upgraded a shared plan. A slightly different total can be caused by tax, a price increase, a currency conversion, or a switch from promotional to standard pricing.

If you recognise the service but no longer want it, cancel with the merchant or the app store that handles billing and keep the confirmation. If you already cancelled, compare the cancellation date with the billing period before requesting a refund. If no account or receipt matches the charge, contact the merchant first and then your bank promptly if it remains unexplained.
